A former assistant editor whose job disappeared in a restructure has landed a top job on a newspaper in the Bahamas.
Martin Biddle, pictured left, was assistant editor of the Nottingham Post for six years but left the position on February 13.
He will now be heading to warmer climes after being appointed managing editor of Bahamas daily newspaper The Tribune, based in Nassau.
The newspaper was previously edited by John Marquis,a former regional journalist in the UK who stood down as editor in May 2009, and then by former Hartlepool Mail chief sub John Fleet.
During his time at the Post, Martin was said to have made a significant contribution to the newspaper.
He was heavily involved in managing and growing the Northcliffe-owned newspaper’s website and also helped develop its presence in social media.
In addition, he was responsible for training and mentoring junior reporters, some of whom have won national awards for their work.
He also played an important role in planning and implementing the integrated newsroom which has become a model for the industry.
Post editor Malcolm Pheby said: “I would like to thank Martin for everything he has achieved on behalf of the Post. Many reporters owe him a debt of gratitude for the excellent training and guidance he has given them. He will be missed by his colleagues.
“I would like to take this opportunity of wishing Martin every success in his future career.”
Does this mean they won’t have an editor (standing down soon), a deputy (left for Lincoln) or an assistant editor? Hope their succession planning is up to scratch!

Should never have left Maidenhead.

Deputy and assistant editors are a luxury Northcliffe can no longer afford. Employ more subs.

Can’t understand why Bahamas is more attractive than sunny Slough Martin?
