Paper raids photo archive ahead of Royal Wedding

A bi-weekly newspaper is getting in the Royal Wedding fever by publishing a series of photos from across the decades.

Photographers from the Lynn News have been attending the Royal Family’s Christmas walkabouts at Sandringham for at least 80 years, gaining thousands of pictures in the process.

The paper’s photographic manager Paul Marsh, photographer Paul Tibbs and web journalist Sarah Lucas have now put together a collection of 75 pictures of Prince William with his family from its unique archive for a video on its website.

It is also publishing a selection of photos online and in print, two of which are pictured below, as excitement about the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton increases.

Editor Jon Buss said: “We wanted to do something different in the run-up to the Royal wedding and we knew that we had the answer in our own files, with snaps going back to when he was a toddler.

“The pictures we have published are just the tip of the iceberg. There are thousands of Royal pics going back 80 years or more.”

Videos by the Lynn News attracted more than 100,000 hits in March, with one of the most popular ones being an exclusive trip on Hunstanton’s new £125,000 lifeboat which was paid for after a fundraising appeal by the paper.
