A website devoted to citizen journalism has won two business awards.

BlottR won the Innovative Business of the Year in the Startups Awards 2011 and has also  picked up the ‘most disruptive technology’ award at the Tech City UK Entrepreneurship Festival held last month.

Site founder Adam Baker said: “It is fantastic to be recognised for the work Blottr is doing to game change how news is gathered and reported in the UK.

“The nature of the award, as the UK’s most innovative startup business, underlines how disruptive we have been already, thanks solely to the great team we have and the public, who have demonstrated significant appetite for consuming and contributing news witnessed by people at the scene.

“We hope to build on this success in 2012 and continue to deliver a unique, compelling, fast people-powered breaking news service.”

The website, which has also launched in France, was also highly commended in the best education, recruitment and media award at The Europas 2011.
