Trainee Sub-editors (news and sport)
|Posted:||Mon 10 Jan 2022|
|Closing Date:||Fri 4 Feb 2022|
|Employment Type:||Training leading to possible full-time role|
Applications are now invited for the Daily Mail editorial training scheme (sub-editors) that begins in September 2022. We are looking for budding subs for both news and sport, with an excellent grounding in the English language, who want to work for Britain's most successful newspaper group.
We are also inviting applications from trainee subs for our Stephen Lawrence scholarship which helps students from under-represented groups break into journalism.
Our trainee sub-editors embark on a year-long programme that involves intense training, assessment and on-the-job experience at a national newspaper.
The successful applicants will probably have a post-grad in journalism or NCTJ qualification and will have shown a commitment to journalism by working for their student newspaper or website and gained work experience in newsrooms.
We want self-starters with a real interest in current affairs and a proven track record in grammar, punctuation and accuracy. A flair for headline writing and page layout skills would be a bonus.
Previous graduates of the training scheme now hold senior positions on the Mail and its sister paper the Mail on Sunday.
The course starts in September with an intensive in-house training month during which the trainees are introduced to Mail style and culture. It is followed by five months placement – at either Metro, the Evening Standard, the i newspaper, the Scottish Daily Mail in Glasgow or the Irish Daily Mail in Dublin - after which the trainees will join the Mail’s news subs or sports desk.
Trainees will be on the best journalism course in the business and paid a competitive salary while they train. Nearly all are offered staff jobs at the end.
To apply send a covering letter, your CV and the three best examples of your work to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday February 4, 2022.
Please specify in the subject of the email that your application is for a trainee news sub, trainee sports sub and if it is for the Stephen Lawrence scholarship. Interviews will be held in late February.
Please mention HoldtheFrontPage when applying for this role. This advert will expire on Friday 4th February 2022.
