Trinity Mirror plc is looking for a Trainee Digital Journalist to join our newsroom in Somerset. We need a candidate that is full of ideas and aware of content which drives digital audience, as well as being fast, organised and accurate, with the ability to communicate brilliantly via social media.
The successful candidate will have superb social media skills, excellent online storytelling techniques and a deep understanding of how to make content engaging to digital audiences.
The role will involve creating content for one of Trinity Mirror's newest websites, SomersetLive.co.uk, which in turn produces content for seven weekly newspapers - the Western Gazette, Wells Journal, Shepton Mallet Journal, Cheddar Valley Gazette, Central Somerset Gazette, Frome Standard and the Somerset Guardian.

The role will involve:
Creating engaging, audience-led and socially shareable digital content for SomersetLive.co.uk.
Preparing and planning advance content plans around major events or topics on the patch.
Uploading articles, video and images to the web.
Ensuring standards are upheld and maintaining a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and the IPSO code.
Working within a team of 14 journalists, reporting to one of our Digital Editors.
Ensuring a ‘right first time’ approach is taken with all content generation.

The starting salary for this position is £18,500. Trainees will receive full training as part of a two year programme, culminating with the attainment of the Certificate of Journalism and a pay increase.
