|Sector:||Regional Media, National Media|
Role: Senior Content Editor (Print)
Publication: The National Wales
Location: Flexible – option to be home/remote based or from our Newport head office or Haverford West office
Salary: £30,000 pro rata
Wales’ new national newspaper – The National – has now become a weekly print publication and we’re hiring a print content and production editor to help us make sure it’s the best product on the stands every Saturday.
This is a key leadership role and we are looking for a senior journalist to take the lead on production and content for this flagship title as we seek to make it the go-to news platform in Wales.
The role is part-time, four days a week. It involves planning the content for the print title and producing and outputting the pages to deadline, while working alongside the digital content editor and helping to manage the team of reporters who work across print and digital.
We want to find the right balance in the team and the work could be done on flexible hours, within the constraints of hitting a Friday evening deadline.
This role involves leadership, production skills and experience (inDesign experience is helpful) and the ability to work alongside others to ensure we produce a brilliant print product without compromising our digital ambitions.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years’ experience on a daily or weekend newspaper and be someone has a passion for print allowing others to focus their attention on digital. You will also be someone who can deputise for our editor.
An interest in Welsh affairs is important as The National is a title that aims to set the agenda in the months ahead and you will be an important part of that.
Welsh language skills will be beneficial.
The National was created because many people in Wales get their news from UK sources that don’t tell the stories from a Welsh perspective. We believe Wales needs a strong national media and aim to fill that void as part of a richer Welsh media landscape.
We launched on March 1, St David’s Day, and have quickly grown to more than 500 digital subscribers. Following the success and enthusiasm for our special launch edition in print, we took the title weekly in mid-April.
This is an opportunity to join the title at an early stage and be part of our journey as we grow.
