The Yorkshire Post is looking for a senior leader of the highest calibre to lead our online team, which services the entire Johnston Press Yorkshire portfolio, including two of the country’s leading metropolitan dailies, The Star, Sheffield and Yorkshire Evening Post.
The current incumbent vacates the role owing to internal promotion, having helped lead The Yorkshire Post to the top of the ABC table (July-Dec 2017) for unique user growth, making it the fastest-growing audited large regional news site in the UK, bar none. As if that wasn’t enough, the JP Yorkshire team took second place in that same table with the Yorkshire Evening Post. Digital Development Editor, Yorkshire, is not a job for someone happy to settle for second best.
This is an irresistible opportunity for an individual to work at a centre which has lit up the national broadcast airwaves this week - leading bulletins on Sky, BBC, ITV, Radio 2, Radio 4, 5 Live, LBC - to name a few - with our #OneNorth initiative, helping to launch a pan-publisher broadside at Government in the wake of a catastrophic failure on the North’s railways. Reporting to the Editorial Director, this role comes with a team of 10 direct reports, and around 140 journalists across Yorkshire - from Doncaster to Whitby, Halifax to Harrogate - to help you deliver yet more industry-leading multi-platform / multi-channel growth, whilst continuously driving up quality engagement levels.
Responsible for the overall development of digital strategy across all platforms, you will ensure Yorkshire’s editorial teams are at the forefront of digital innovation, driven by analytics and informed by quality data.
You will have a thorough understanding and passion for digital best-practice and have the ability to train and develop all teams across the county on the continuous changes to the online landscape, and ensure we adapt and implement at pace..
You are an expert curator of content, and understand how to best leverage social channels for incoming content and outward distribution. You fully understand how to create, curate, edit and distribute video, in a way that is strategically linked to driving revenue opportunities, and you have a plan which will help every journalist in Yorkshire to contribute fully.
The right person for this role is an Editorial Director in the making: a creative force who thinks strategically and thrives on success; capable and confident enough in their being able to perform consistently at the highest level across multiple disciplines and centres. You have a proven track-record in building and leading highly-motivated teams which revel in outperforming expectations.
