New exhibition marks newspaper’s 200th anniversary

An exhibition to mark the 200th anniversary of an award-winning newspaper has been launched this week.

Enniskeillen Castle Museum is hosting a collection of photographs, memorabilia, and personal archives from 200 years of the Importial Reporter.

Entitled The Impartial Reporter 1825 – 2025: Reporting 200 Years of History Through the Archives, the exhibition opened on Monday.

It highlights the role The Impartial Reporter and its former owners the Trimble family have played in the life of Fermanagh, South Tyrone, and the border counties over the past two centuries.

The family owned the newspaper for more than 180 years until 2006 when it was sold to the Ulster News Group.

It is now part of regional publishing giant Newsquest.

Along with the exhibition, the newspaper is also marking its two centuries at the heart of the community with an official book, The Impartial Reporter: 200 Years of Stories.

Edited by the paper’s current editor Rodney Edwards, it bills itself as “a living story of the enduring power of local journalism.”

The book, pictured above, contains a foreword written by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, and captures pivotal moments in local and national history.

The book is available to pre-order here.
