New editor takes charge at regional business site

A regional business news website has appointed a new editor.

Afroze Zaidi, pictured, has been announced as the new West Midlands Editor of TheBusinessDesk.com.

Afroze completed a Masters degree at the University of Birmingham and has lived in the city for the past 18 years.

Her background is in project coordination, research, and political journalism, including writing and editing for independent and online media.

TheBusinessDesk.com’s joint managing director Alex Turner added: “Afroze will strengthen our editorial team and be a great addition to our West Midlands team.

“We’re looking forward to her shaping our market-leading business coverage and reinforcing our presence in the region.”

Afroze said: “Birmingham has been my home for the last 18 years. The city’s industrial heritage has allowed it to become an amalgamation of diverse communities which, in some ways, has contributed to its marmite-like ‘underdog’ reputation.

“Its central location makes it a city that’s full of possibilities. Against this backdrop, I am beyond excited for the opportunity to be heading TheBusinessDesk.com’s West Midlands coverage, on the issues that matter most to its audience, and becoming a part of the region’s thriving business community.”

The appointment follows on from TheBusinessDesk.com’s recent investment in the South West, with the acquisition of West Business News.

The company has a busy programme of round tables, seminars and lunches planned in the West Midlands including its corporate finance awards in July and a summer networking lunch in August.
