Retired crime reporter nurses injured racehorse back to health

A journalist is nursing a racehorse back to health after fearing a serious leg injury could prove fatal to the animal.

Former Bradford Telegraph & Argus crime reporter Steven Wright is caring for ‘best pal’ Alexander, who he has owned for 14 years.

Alexander, 20, raced under the name Adelphi Warrior until the age of six and Steven revived the horse’s racing days in 2017, raising more than £500 for charity in the process.

Steven subsequently wrote a book about his equestrian feat entitled Run With Your Heart.

He told the T&A: “Alexander damaged a tendon. He was so badly lame at Christmas I thought he might not recover.

“It was heartbreaking because he is my best pal and I love him to bits.

“Our vet is delighted with his progress. It will take time but I hope and pray we can get him fit so he can go back out in the field with his pals, and I can ride him again.

“I will be there for him as long as it takes. I owe him that after everything he has done for me. We have had an amazing journey together and I want it to continue.”
