Regional titles launch search for ’emerging talent’

A regional publisher is launching a search for aspiring journalists to join its ’emerging talent’ programme – with the chance of a two-year trainee contract on offer.

Mediahuis is looking for candidates keen to kickstart their career with the print and digital media publisher, home to the Belfast Telegraph, Sunday Life and Sunday World.

It wants to hear from would-be journalists from all backgrounds interested in joining the Mediahuis Emerging Talent (MET) programme.

The scheme offers a fixed two-year trainee contract and the gateway to a potential career with some of the leading brands across the island of Ireland.

Editorial development executive Alan Steenson added: “Our Emerging Talent Programme has been a huge success since its launch in 2022 and we’re delighted to open applications to aspiring journalists this year.

“We want to hear from those with a passion for journalism, regardless of background or experience, to take up this unique opportunity to kickstart their career.

“Successful candidates will learn from our experienced teams as they take their first steps in the world of journalism.”

Edward McCann, director of publishing operations, added: “We want to recruit as diverse and dynamic a range of people as possible, particularly people from under-represented demographics. This is a vote of confidence in the future.”

College degrees or previous experience are not necessarily required and successful candidates will be given a broad range of training and on-the-job experience.

Applications will close at midnight on May 5. You can apply at www.mediahuis.co.uk/emergingtalent.
