Regional daily pull-out marks club’s back-to-back promotions

A regional daily marked a second successive promotion for its local football club with a special supplement.

After returning to the Football League for the first time in 15 years last year, Wrexham FC earned back-to-back promotions for the first time in their 160-year history.

Daily title The Leader, which is based near the town, marked the achievement by publishing the 64-page pull-out in yesterday’s edition.

Its reporter Richard Williams didn’t miss a game as Phil Parkinson’s side ended up runners-up in League Two.Supplement front May 9
Sports editor Nick Harrison said: “The Leader doesn’t miss a kick and never has done since it was first published in 1973 and celebrated the club’s most memorable 1977/78 season with one of the first promotion pull-outs.

“More promotions followed for Brian Flynn and Denis Smith’s sides in 1993 and 2003 before Phil Parkinson led the Reds to National League title glory as the Wrexham supporters celebrated in some style last season.
