The use of AI in journalism, police-media relations and engaging new audiences in politics will top the agenda at the year’s biggest news industry gathering this Spring.

The Society of Editors is marking its 25th anniversary with a one-day conference at London’s Leonardo Royal Hotel on 30th April.

Panel themes will include the opportunities and threats posed by AI, engaging first-time voters in politics, and “resetting” relatiopns between the polce and the media/

Other issues under discussion will be tackling disinformation during a year of global elections and the practicalities and responsibilities of war reporting.

Announcing the panel themes, SoE executive director Dawn Alford said: “This year the Society will celebrate 25 years of advocating on behalf of press freedom both at home and on the global stage and our anniversary conference will bring together some of the biggest names in journalism to discuss the most pressing topics.

“From the opportunities and threats posed by AI to how to engage audiences in a year of global elections and the reality and responsibilities of reporting from the front line, the conference aims to provide delegates with thought-provoking and practical solutions to take back to their newsrooms.”

As usual, the event will include an influential Editors’ Panel with leading national, regional, and broadcast editors sharing their thoughts on the media landscape, coverage of the biggest news stories and threats to journalism.

And the occasion will also include an evening drinks reception in celebration of the Society’s work over more than two decades.
