Journalist who ran weekly’s district coverage dies aged 69

Michele VincentA journalist who ran a weekly’s district news coverage has died aged 69.

Tributes have been paid to Michele Vincent, who worked for the Rotherham Advertiser between 2000 and 2014.

Michele, pictured, served as a reporter and district news co-ordinator while on the Advertiser’s staff.

She also served as secretary of the South Yorkshire Branch of the National Union of Journalists.

Michele’s partner Geoff told the Advertiser: “Above all Michele was a people person, .be it with family, friends or colleagues. And strangers, who didn’t feel strangers for long.

“She might have entered the Guinness Book of Records for the number of birthday cards she sent. Somehow she always found out someone’s birthday, and often their children’s birthdays, and an appropriate card was posted in good time.

“One of her colleagues on the Rotherham Advertiser once said of her, ‘Every office should have a Michele’ and that would have resonated in all the offices she worked.”

Michele died on 29 February after a short illness, according to an obituary published by the Advertiser on Saturday.
