Gemma-2An experienced journalist is returning to the industry to take charge of a business news website after 10 years working for a major bank.

Gemma Casey, pictured, has been appointed as the new head of editorial and operations at Business News Wales.

It’s the latest move in a varied career for Gemma who started out as a reporter on the South Wales Argus 25 years ago.

Since then she has had stints with BBC Wales, the Press Association and most recently with Nat West bank where was ecosystem manager for Wales.

Gemma will now take over editorial duties from the site’s founder and managing director Mark Powney, who will focus on growing the business following a recent significant investment.

Said Gemma: “Business journalism is my passion – I worked on several business strands during my time at BBC Wales, and more recently I’ve worked directly alongside startups and scaling businesses, supporting their journeys and helping them to communicate and connect.

“So I am delighted to join Business News Wales at such a critical time during its growth and I look forward to developing the platform as the essential business-to-business news site for Wales.”

Mark added: “Gemma will certainly raise the bar in terms of our editorial quality and will ultimately enable the team to cover more in-depth industry subjects and topics.

“Demand for our in-house content and editorial support service is increasing 10-fold and will be complemented by the experience Gemma will bring to the team.

“As we begin to scale the business, our niche coverage will be pivotal. I am so pleased to have someone of Gemma’s experience heading up our editorial direction, which will have a transformational effect on our development and growth.”

After starting out at the Argus in 1999, Gemma became the Press Association’s Wales Editor before spending five years at BBC Wales, where she was a researcher and producer across radio and TV news and current affairs.

She initially moved to Nat West in a regional PR manager post before taking on a wider role in its Welsh operations.
