An editor has returned home after a spell running a UK regional publisher’s American venture.

Ryan Smith has joined the Belfast-based Irish News as digital editor.

Ryan, pictured, previously edited Reach plc website Belfast Live before being seconded to launched the New York-based Irish Star for the publisher.

He had been based in the USA since the start of 20223, but has now returned to Northern Ireland after starting his new role this summer.

At the News, Ryan has once again teamed up with Chris Sherrard.

Chris took over the editorship of the News from long-serving editor Noel Doran in November.

He previously spent 15 years with Reach, where he was audience and content director for Belfast and Republic of Ireland titles at the time of his departure.
