Anna Whittaker 2A local democracy reporter has left her role after almost three years for a new political role with the BBC in a move that will see her follow in her grandmother’s footsteps.

Anna, pictured, will now take up a new post as a political reporter in Staffordshire, working on both BBC Radio Stoke and Midlands Today.

In a farewell post on X, Anna explained her new role has special resonance for her.

She wrote: “My incredible Nan, who we lost suddenly in October, volunteered at Radio Stoke taking charity phone calls back in the 1990s and never stopped talking about it. so it certainly feels like a full circle moment.

“I’ve had the best two and a half years as a Local Democracy Reporter.

“I’ve written hundreds of stories about Nottingham’s maternity services which simply wouldn’t have been possible without tireless campaigning by bereaved and harmed families. You’re all incredible.”
