Weekly’s top two editorial chiefs quit after ‘odd few days’

Carly RobertsTwo top editorial staff have quit after an “odd few days” at a weekly newspaper.

Peterborough Telegraph digital editor Carly Roberts and deputy editor Nigel Thornton have left National World weekly the Peterborough Telegraph.

Carly and Nigel took joint charge of the Telegraph last year after Mark Edwards, who had edited the paper since 2007, was moved to a new role with National World forerunner JPIMedia.

Following their appointments, Carly oversaw the digital side of the Telegraph’s operation and Nigel took charge of print-related duties.

HTFP has approached the publisher for clarification on who is now running the Telegraph in the wake of their twin departures.

Carly, pictured, revealed her decision to leave in a post on X yesterday.

The former Northampton Chronicle & Echo journalist wrote: “I’ve decided to leave National World and my role at the Peterborough Telegraph.

“It’s been an incredible training ground for seven years; from junior to digital editor and I will miss my colleagues hugely. Now, I’m looking for new opportunities.”

Chief reporter Stephen Briggs also posted about the double departure on Friday.

He wrote: “Odd few days at PT Towers as we’ve said goodbye to web editor Carly Roberts and deputy editor Nigel Thornton – two people who have made a big difference while they were here.”
