Weekly to downsize as it leaves home of 155 years

A weekly newspaper is set to leave its home of 155 years after putting the building on the market.

The Stroud News & Journal has announced its departure from Lansdown Road, where the paper and its forerunner the Stroud Journal have been based since 1868.

The Newsquest-owned News & Journal has not yet confirmed where its new home will be, but has committed to keeping its editorial team based in Stroud.

The three-storey building, pictured, which is also the headquarters for the Gloucestershire Gazette and Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard, has gone on the market for £425,000.

Stephanie Preece, Newsquest’s regional editor for Gloucestershire and Worcestershire, said: “We are as committed as ever to reporting on all of the stories that matter to the people of Stroud and surrounding valleys.

“Our editorial team will continue to be based in Stroud but we no longer need such a large building and sadly it’s time to bid farewell to our current home that has served us so well.

“The Stroud News & Journal continues to go from strength to strength, growing its online audience last year as well as continuing to come out in print every week.”
