Weekly moves to new office in ‘heart of town’

A weekly newspaper has moved to a new office “at the heart of the town it was founded in” more than 160 years ago.

The Cornish & Devon Post has moved into the premises at 10 Southgate Steet, Launceston.

The Tindle-owned Post was previously based in nearby Westgate Street.

The new office was officially opened by the town’s mayor Councillor Helen Bailey and consort Adrian Bailey in a ceremony held on 25 May.

A report of the ceremony states: “The editor, Zoë Uglow, welcomed those present and said it was an honour to be opening this new office, placing the local paper at the heart of the town it was founded in.

“It was on 19 April 1856 that the first edition of the ‘Launceston Weekly News and Cornwall and Devon Advertiser,’ the forerunner of the ‘Cornish & Devon Post,’ which was printed and published by John Brimell at Broad Street, Launceston, made its appearance, and with it began the modern newspaper era in Launceston and surrounding districts.”
