Top regional journalist to join conference panel

Conor Matchett 2022An award-winning regional political journalist is among the latest names to be added to the line-up for this year’s Society of Editors Conference.

The Scotsman’s Conor Matchett, left, won the inaugural regional Journalist of the Year prize at the SoE’s Media Freedom Awards in November for his work on investigations into care home deaths during Covid-19.

Now he is to take part in a panel looking at politics, policing and holding power to account at the Society’s Future of News conference on 15th March.

Conor will be joined by the Mail’s Rebecca Camber who is also Chair of the Crime Reporters Association.

Other new speakers confirmed in the past week include Ben Taylor, recently announced as the new editor of The Sunday Times, who will join an Editors’ Panel looking at challenges facing the industry.

Maria Breslin, editor of the Liverpool Echo, had previously been announced as a member of the same panel.

Announcing the new additions to the line-up, SoE executive director Dawn Alford said: “We are delighted to add such high-profile and distinguished editors, journalists and industry experts to what is shaping up to be a fantastic programme looking at the Future of News on 15 March.”

The one-day event will take place at the Leonardo Royal Hotel, London City.
