Thirty journalism students to vie for football writing awards worth £3,000

Thirty journalism students from across the United Kingdom and beyond are set to compete for football writing awards worth £3,000 in total.

The Football Writers’ Association has unveiled the shortlist for its Student Football Writer of the Year 2023 Awards, which attracted more than 500 entries this year.

Three prizes are on offer – the Vikki Orvice Female Student Football Writer of the Year, Unheard Voices Student Football Writer of the Year and – Hugh McIlvanney Male Student Football Writer of the Year.

The categories were last year won by Yara El-Haboury, Sajidur Rahman and Andrew McLean respectively.

Each category’s winner will also receive £1,000.

The winners will be announced at the FWA’s 75th anniversary Footballer of the Year dinner on 25 May.
