Teen journalist named among 30 most inspirational young women

Iona MadonaldA teenage journalist has been named among Scotland’s most inspirational young women.

Inverness Courier reporter Iona MacDonald, 17, has made the Young Women’s Movement Scottish ’30 under 30′ list.

Iona, pictured, was hired at the age of 16 under the Community News Project to cover Ullapool and the surrounding towns and villages.

She is set to qualify as a senior journalist before turning 18 and has conducted investigations including a probe which exposed the selling of vapes to underage customers in Inverness.

The Young Women’s Movement is described as Scotland’s national organisation for young women’s feminist leadership and collective action against gender inequality.

Other journalists to have made the list included BBC Sport Scotland’s Amy Canavan, 23, and Sophie Wallace.

Sophie, 26, worked on STV and Good Morning Britain before becoming aa senior PR executive at marketing firm Tigerbond.
