Six newspapers run same splash in bid to stop child hunger

Six sister newspapers have run the same splash in a bid to stop children in their region from going hungry over the summer.

Newsquest’s ‘No hungry kids this summer’ campaign is aiming to raise £5,000 for six foodbanks across the North-West of England.

To launch the campaign, daily titles the Bolton News and Lancashire Telegraph ran the same front page yesterday, along with the weekly Wirral Globe.

The Oldham Times, Warrington Guardian and St Helens Star followed suit today.

Wirral hunger

Newsquest North West’s regional editor Richard Duggan told HTFP: “We know the pressures that families face across our communities, especially at this time of year when the long summer school holiday arrives.

“This period presents them with challenges and sadly the soaring levels of inflation – especially for food – means this year many will feel this strain more severely than before and may need to turn to foodbanks.

“When there is an increase in demand, it puts strain on supplies at the foodbanks so we’re calling on our loyal readers, partners and the businesses we work with to do what they can to support local foodbanks across the North West this summer.”
