Second football writer quits news site to join rival daily

Elliott JacksonA second football writer has left a regional news website to join another of its rivals.

The Lancashire Telegraph has announced the appointment of Lancs Live’s Blackburn Rovers reporter Elliott Jackson.

His move to the Newsquest-owned daily comes just days after George Hodgson, who was Preston North End reporter at Reach plc-owned website, left to join National World’s Lancashire Post.

Elliott, pictured, has spent the past four years with Reach and spent 18 months in his most recent role.

Posting about his move on X, he thanked Aiden McCartney, Reach’s head of network content for football, and head of sport for Yorkshire and the North East, who gave him his initial break as a club writer for Grimsby Town.

He replaces Rich Sharpe, who has left the Blackburn-based Telegraph after six-and-a-half years, in his new role

Elliott wrote: “There are lots of great people at Reach and I’ll miss working alongside them.

“I am delighted to announce that I am joining the Lancashire Telegraph as their Blackburn Rovers reporter next week.

“Rich has left big shoes to fill but it’s a challenge I am looking forward to. I’m hopeful that you’ll enjoy some fresh ideas and new content we have planned.

“We’ll be with Rovers every step of the way in what I’m sure will be another dramatic but exhilarating season.”

Telegraph editor Richard Duggan told HTFP: “I am thrilled to welcome Elliott to the team.

“He’s a very talented reporter who I have no doubt will continue to ensure the Lancashire Telegraph is the best source of news for all things Blackburn Rovers – we’ve got big plans for our coverage and I’m very excited for him to get stuck in.”
