A scam artist has been impersonating a regional sports title in an attempt to get readers’ bank details.

Newsquest-owned website Rangers Review, which covers Glasgow’s Rangers Football Club, has had to issue a warning for readers to be vigilant after a fake Twitter account attempted to con its readers.

Operating under the handle @RangerReview55, as opposed to the official account’s handle @RangersReview55, the scammer sent messages to readers telling them they had won a replica Rangers shirt.

They were then invited to click a link.

The account has now been suspended.

In a warning to readers, Rangers Review said: “Fake account alert.

“We’ve been made aware of the below account sending DMs asking for payment details.

“Please report and do not reply/click the link.”
