Regional publishers win more than 20 nominations for podcast awards

Andrew MusgroveRegional journalists and publishers have received more than 20 nominations at an awards ceremony celebrating podcasting.

The Publisher Podcast Awards has unveiled its shortlist for 2023, with regional titles featuring prominently across the categories.

There are particularly strong showings for National World and Reach plc, which have received nine and eight nominations respectively.

Among the Reach nominees is its North-East and Yorkshire social media editor Andrew Musgrove, pictured, who is up for the Podcast Hero of the Year prize for his work on Everything is Black and White, a football podcast run by Newcastle daily The Chronicle that is also shortlisted for Best Sport Podcast.

Other programmes to receive more than one nomination include National World’s The Reset Room, which will compete for Best Family & Lifestyle Podcast and Best Health & Wellbeing Podcast.

Birmingham Live’s Brummie Mummies is also up for Best Family & Lifestyle Podcast and Best Local & Community Podcast.

In the latter category, it will vie with fellow Reach title The Northern Agenda and the Sunderland Echo’s Testimony: The Body on Seaham Beach, which has also been shortlisted for Best Investigative Podcast.

The Northern Agenda will also face two National World titles, The Steamie and How to be an Independent Country: Scotland’s Choices, for Best Political Podcast.

The winners will be revealed at a ceremony in London on 26 April.
