Regional publisher supports charity’s Christmas campaign

A group of local newspaper titles are supporting a Christmas campaign for a leading charity on their patch.

Newsquest is backing the Ormiston Families’ Stronger Together support group in Cambridgeshire, which helps parents of children with additional needs or disabilities.

The group’s Cambridgeshire titles have been sharing the stories of parents impacted by the service in a five-week festive campaign.

Titles involved in the initiative include the Cambs Times, Hunts Post, Ely Standard and Wisbech Standard.

Cambridgeshire group editor Debbie Davies said the service was doing vital work and that readers had already donated more than £1,000 to support it.

She said: “The support provided to parents by the Stronger Together group is invaluable and it certainly deserves more time in the spotlight.

“Supporting Ormiston Families’ Christmas campaign allows us to shine a light on the struggles these parents face that often go unnoticed in our communities.

“We are very proud to be supporting the campaign and are delighted with the positive reaction to the stories we’ve shared so far and we hope to raise as much money as we can.”

The funds raised will go towards new sensory toys and resources for the children attending the group.

Andrew Fitchett, Head of Communications & Engagement at Ormiston Families, thanked Newsquest for its support.

He said: “Debbie and her team at the Cambridgeshire titles have done us proud with this campaign. The support of the local press is crucial for charities like ours and the support we’ve seen from readers so far shows they still play a big role in our communities.

“Stronger Together is such an important service but it needs every penny it can get so it can keep going and campaigns like this are vital to that happening.”
