Regional journalists face national competition at Asian Media Awards

Kiran SajanRegional press journalists will vie for a clutch of awards at an annual ceremony celebrating the best of British Asian journalism.

The shortlist has been revealed for the Asian Media Awards 2023, which are set to take place on 27 October at Hilton Manchester Deansgate.

Kiran Sajan, who works for Newsquest weeklies the Basingstoke Gazette and Andover Advertiser, is nominated for Regional Journalist of the Year.

Kiran, pictured, is joined on the shortlist by journalists working for LBC, the BBC and ITV in the category.

Elsewhere, Bradford Telegraph & Argus community reporter Haleema Saheed and Glasgow Live senior reporter Fahad Rahman Tariq will face national competition for the Outstanding Young Journalist prize.

Three Sky and two ITV journalists are also nominated.

A spokesperson for the awards said: “Each year we are taken aback by the quality of the entries and the shortlisting process this year was more difficult than ever.

“We would like to thank everyone who submitted their work and also our panel who help to recommend stand-out projects throughout the year.

“There are again finalists in a wide range of categories showcasing work that reaches worldwide and local audiences and tackles sensitive and/or controversial issues. This despite the distinct challenges they may face.

“The creative and live event industries continue to innovate and the awards have been keen support their efforts through the presentation of a new award.”
