One of Reach plc’s big-city websites has overtaken one of its sister titles to become the most-read regional press title online.
The Birmingham Mail’s online platform Birmingham Live recorded the most page views in September, according to the latest figures by market research firm Ipsos – with 55m hits in total representing a 4pc increase on the same period last year.
As a result, long-running top spot holder the Manchester Evening News was pushed into second after its page views dropped by a third year-on-year from 80m down to 53m.
Total unique users at the MEN were also down by the same proportion, although it did retain its top spot in the charts when measured by that metric too.
Reach titles occupied all of the top 10 places in the unique user charts, although they all experienced year-on-year declines of between 12 and 37pc.
In terms of minutes spent by readers on sites over the course of September, Newsquest took the top two spots with the Carlisle News & Star and Watford Observer recording averages of 11:53 and 10:10 respectively.

Websites which are ‘untagged’ are reported based on observed panel behaviour. These sites can experience volatility from month to month.
