Publisher to launch two new print titles following commuter demand

Mark McGinlayAn independent publisher is to expand with the launch of two new titles following demand from commuters in the areas it already serves.

Peculiar Publications has announced the launch of two new London newspapers – the Bush Bugle and Sutton Storyteller.

The Bugle will primarily serve the Shepherd’s Bush area, while the Storyteller will be aimed at the London Borough of Sutton.

Peculiar’s decision to expand comes after its first-ever title the Peckham Peculiar, which launched in January 2014, won ICNN Independent Community Newspaper of the Year at this year’s Newspaper Awards.

The group also launched the Dulwich Diverter in May 2016, the Lewisham Ledger in June 2018 and the Camberwell Clarion last year.

Peculiar’s co-founder Mark McGinlay told HTFP demand from commuters working in Sutton and Shepherd’s Bush was among the factors in the decision to expand.

Mark, pictured, said: “We’re very much now able to give our regular roster of freelancers more work but no actual jobs were created [by the Bugle and Storyteller’s launches].

“Funnily enough, we were approached each time by people we know locally who live in South-East London but who work in those two areas.

“I think winning the ICNN award really helped us in terms of wider recognition.”

Both the Bugle and the Storyteller will print quarterly and have an initial circulation of 15,000.

The first edition of the Storyteller will come out in early October, with the Bugle’s launch coming the following month.
