paul brackleyAn independent publisher has been recognised for its work campaigning on behalf of bereaved children.

Iliffe Media has received praise from Ormiston Families, which provides services for young people who have lost loved ones.

Iliffe weekly the Cambridge Independent has been campaigning to raise £10,000 for the charity, which is based on its patch.

As part of the drive, Iliffe has contributed £750 to the total.

The donation will pay for a child to receive two specialist bereavement counselling sessions with a practitioner as part of Ormiston’s ‘Stars’ scheme.

Vicky Matthews, senior corporate partnerships manager for Ormiston, told the Independent: “Iliffe have been fantastic supporters of Stars with the Cambridge Independent’s Shining Stars campaign making a real impact.

“We’ve had so many people get in touch and it’s helped raise the profile of Stars, and raise some crucial funds.

“Our relationships with local businesses are vital to our work and we couldn’t do what we do without them. This award is a sign of Iliffe’s commitment and backing for Stars and we can’t thank them enough.”

Independent editor Paul Brackley, pictured, added: “Ormiston Families Stars carry out a brilliant and much-needed service.

“We have been pleased to work with the service to raise awareness of what they do, and vital funds.”
