TV show in which comedians tour local newsrooms to air this week

A new series in which two comedians tour a regional publisher’s newsrooms is set to air tomorrow.

Hold The Front Page, which sees Nish Kumar and Josh Widdicombe undertake work experience at six National World offices, will be broadcast on Sky Max.

Newsrooms to feature in the programme include The Scotsman, Yorkshire Post, West Sussex Gazette, Blackpool Gazette, Northamptonshire Telegraph and Farming Life.

The six-part series was commissioned by Sky last year.

In an interview with Gary Shipton, who was among the editors they worked for in Sussex, the pair were asked what the series had been about.

Mr Kumar said: “I think it’s ultimately been about celebrating local journalism in the United Kingdom. That’s the main take home from it.

“The other is that two quite confident people finding out that their confidence was misplaced.”

Asked about the newsrooms they visited, Mr Widdicombe added: “You imagine these huge things and you were surprised at how small they were.

“And how much people were taking on themselves. How few people were creating a whole newspaper I think was spectacular.”

All episodes of the series will be available to download on demand from tomorrow, with the first episode airing on Sky Max at 9pm.
