Memorial football match to be held for journalist after sudden death

A memorial football match is set to be held in memory of a regional journalist who died suddenly this summer.

The annual Dan Kay Memorial Trophy match will be played for the first time on Sunday between friends and family of Dan Kay.

Former Liverpool Echo journalist Dan, who was 45, died earlier this year..

He worked on the Echo’s staff from 2003 to 2021, holding roles including deputy head of web, national news editor and live content editor for both news and sport.

Dan, pictured, was also a well-known campaigner on behalf of the families of Hillsborough disaster victims.

Funds raised from the game will be split between three charities close to Dan and his family – An Hour for Others, Imagine If Trust and Mind.

Dan was a committed volunteer and fundraiser for An Hour for Others and Imagine If Trust, which are both community projects based in Liverpool.

So far, a fundraising page has already smashed an initial goal of £500.
