Journalists to be offered training and advice on stalking

Rebecca Whittington newJournalists can get advice on harassment and stalking at a forthcoming training workshop.

Women in Journalism is organising the online session, hosted by Reach plc’s online safety editor Rebecca Whittington.

It comes after recent research by Rebecca, pictured, and WIJ found one in four women journalists have experienced sexual harassment or sexual violence due to their work

The workshop is being held in partnership with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, which supports victims of stalking.

A description of the session states: “Anecdotal responses in the research demonstrated a significant number of participants had experienced backlash, stalking, physical safety issues and that the mental health impacts of online abuse, harassment and other traumatic experiences were significant.

“In response to these specific points, Women in Journalism will be hosting a suite of training sessions to address some of the key issues raised by participants.”

The session will be held via Zoom at 1pm on 12 September.
