Former national editor joins IPSO Complaints Committee

Ted YoungA former national editor who began his career in the regional press is set to help adjudicate on complaints to the press watchdog.

The Independent Press Standards Organisation has announced the appointment of Ted Young to its Complaints Committee after he recently stepped down following an eight-year stint editing Metro.

Ted began his career on the Harrow Observer and has also worked at the Northern Echo, Today, The Sun, Daily Mail, Daily Express, London Lite, Mail Online, and New York Daily News.

He also previously served for five years on IPSO’s Editors’ Code of Practice Committee.

Ted, pictured, said: “I am delighted to join IPSO’s Complaints Committee having been at the sharp end of IPSO verdicts and having insight into the thinking behind editorial decisions which would be useful to the committee.”

Complaints Committee chair Laord Faulks added: “We are delighted to welcome Ted Young to IPSO’s Complaints Committee. He brings a wealth of experience to support the Committee in the difficult decisions it must make in delivering robust regulation of the press.”

And IPSO cief executive Charlotte Dewar said: “Ted brings his years of experience of the industry to the Complaints Committee.

“As someone who was very recently navigating the decisions entailed in editing a modern news title, he will bring a fresh and current perspective to the discussions at the Committee.”
