Editor quits regional publisher to join global betting company

Sean MartinThe editor of a football news website run by a regional publisher is leaving his role for a senior position at a global betting company.

Sean Martin has announced his departure from The Celtic Way, a sister title to Newsquest’s Glasgow-based daily The Herald which covers Celtic Football Club.

Sean, pictured, is leaving after a year as editor of The Celtic Way to join LeoVegas, where he will direct the betting firm’s sports content.

However, he will continue writing a column for TCW following his departure.

Sean told HTFP: “I’m immensely and genuinely proud of the work we have produced at The Celtic Way during my tenure, growing the website on all fronts to become what is in my opinion the highest-quality Celtic coverage around.

“While I will no longer be editing the title, I am delighted to confirm I’ve been offered a column to continue offering my own insight and analysis on the club on a regular basis while tackling my new role.

“With a talented team of contributors in place and ongoing material increases across the board, whoever succeeds me in the role will inherit an excellent platform to take TCW to the next level.”

Sean trained at Glasgow Caledonian University before joining Aberdeen’s Press & Journal in 2014.

He held various roles at the P&J, including digital sports journalist and the chief sports sub-editor, before being recruited to the Celtic Way in summer 2021.

Initially a digital journalist, he was promoted to the subscription-based title’s editorship seven months later.
