Editor-in-chief leaves publisher after almost 30 years

Lloys Embley 2023Reach plc has announced the departure of group editor-in-chief Lloyd Embley after almost three decades.

Lloyd has stepped down from his role, effective from today, after nine years in his current role.

The move means Reach’s national editors, including its Scotland editor-in-chief David Dick, will now report directly to the publisher’s chief executive Jim Mullen.

The company has told staff it will “be working with leaders in other editorial areas on the right reporting lines for our future, and will keep you updated”.

Lloyd joined the Daily Mirror in January 1994 and has held numerous roles over the past 30 years, including night Editor and assistant edito.

He then edited the Sunday People before becoming editor-in-chief of the Daily and Sunday Mirror, prior to take up his new role.

Lloyd, pictured, said: “I am incredibly lucky to have worked for so long with some amazing colleagues in an industry I love.

“I joined the Mirror on a six-month contract so 30 years feels like a pretty decent innings.

“I leave behind a group of amazingly talented editors and journalists.

“They are the best in the business and I wish them and their titles every success.

“I will miss them all enormously but I am excited about the future.”

Jim added: “Lloyd’s commitment to the business and keen editorial instincts have helped steer our titles through many changes in recent years.

“He will be missed by many here at Reach and we wish him well in the future.”
