A regional daily’s court reporter has become the third journalist on its staff to leave for a new national role within a month.

Tom Seaward, pictured, has announced he has left the Oxford Mail to join The Sun.

Tom’s move comes after fellow Mail journalists Ed Halford and Olivia Christie said farewell to the paper to join The Times and the Daily Mail respectively.

Tom had worked for the Mail since 2021, having started his career on the Swindon Advertiser four years previously.

Posting on X, he wrote: “If you’re a reader, thank you for letting me bring you the news from the courts.

“And if you’re the editor, thank you for letting me spend so much time not being in the newsroom but instead being where I’m happiest – out and about.

“Being a local newspaper reporter is the best job you can do in your 20s.

“If I had one tip for any budding reporter, it’s to say yes to everything.”
