Daily wins top national prize for print coverage of football

A regional daily has won a top national prize for its football coverage in print.

The Nottingham Post has been named Top Regional Publication Of The Year at the ACE Newspaper and Magazine Awards 2023.

The accolade comes after the Post produced a one-off 48-page souvenir called ‘Back Where They Belong’ to mark Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League, English football’s top division, last year.

The Reach-owned daily’s submission highlighted how it “maximised the opportunity presented by Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League, which included brand extensions through standalone publications”.

Forest thing

Steve Wollaston, head of sport for the Post, said: “We were really proud of the content we produced around Nottingham Forest last season.

“The souvenir edition celebrating the club’s promotion was a massive success and packed full of brilliant content from our talented journalists.

“We followed that up with a special pre-season pullout, and some superb accompanying podcasts that highlighted our multi-platform approach.

“The whole project was supported by various departments in Reach, with marketing, circulation, print and online teams working very effectively together. Just like Forest, it was a great team effort.”

Editor Natalie Fahy added: “This is what we do and what we do well – sitting at the heart of the local community and being a proud part of that.

“We wanted to sing the successes of the team from the rooftops and make sure everyone could share the city’s joy.”
