Daily regains office after publisher’s double U-turn

A regional daily has regained its own office following a double U-turn by its publisher.

The Nottingham Post’s old office at City Gate was initially one of 15 ‘hubs’ across the country to survive Reach’s mass office closure plan in 2021.

But a further decision in March last year to shut City Gate meant the group no longer had a permanent base in the East Midlands.

Now the Post once again has a permanent newsroom in the city, on the second floor at St Nicholas Court, Castle Gate.

Posting about the move on X, executive editor Sam Dimmer wrote: “Absolutely magnificent to be in the newly opened Post offices this week.

“Mainly because it’s air-conditioned, but also because it’s lovely to be surrounded by journalists again.”

He added: “It’s made a massive difference to me this week. Cannot underestimate how important it is for people’s mental health to be able to escape the home for a few days.”

Reach declined to comment further when approached by HTFP.
