Daily reaffirms commitment to ‘heart’ of patch after office move

An editor has reaffirmed a regional daily’s commitment to staying at the “heart” of its patch following an office move.

The Bolton News has moved to a new home on Knowsley Street, around the corner from its old office at The Wellsprings.

The News left The Wellsprings building, in Victoria Square, last year after a decade there, with journalists working remotely until the newspaper’s new headquarters were finalised.

The building, pictured, will also serve as the head office of the Oldham Times, the Messenger series and the Bury Times.

Richard Duggan, editor of the News and Newsquest’s regional editor for the North West, said: “When I took the helm at the start of 2022 one of my first tasks was to find a new home for the Bolton News due to our lease coming to an end.

“It was always important that we as the daily newspaper stayed in the heart of Bolton, so our new home in Knowsley House is a brilliant fit – it’s just a stone’s throw away from our old office.”

The new office is opposite a McDonald’s restaurant and beside a Greggs bakery.

Richard added: “We’re now even closer to some of the town centre’s eateries – which the reporters are naturally delighted about!

“Our new office is sleek, modern and a better reflection of what a newsroom needs to look like in the 21st century.

“It’s also a much better fit in terms of size and for journalists from multiple titles and teams to collaborate.

“Bolton has changed so much since the then Bolton Evening News launched 156 years ago – but through all that time we’ve remained loyal to Bolton and have always provided a voice for its residents.

“Our address may have changed but our devotion to the town and our determination to be the champion for those who live here remains unchanged.”
