Daily celebrates after successful campaign to bring rail HQ to patch

A regional daily has celebrated after successfully campaigning to base a new national rail body on its patch.

The Derby Telegraph has welcomed the announcement from Transport Secretary Mark Harper that the headquarters of Great British Railways will be based on its patch.

Derby triumphed after the Telegraph last year launched a campaign for GBR to be brought there.

Its Reach plc stablemate the Crewe Chronicle had also fought for Crewe to be the headquarters of the institution.

Derby GBR win

Telegraph editor Sam Dimmer told HTFP: “It’s brilliant news for the city and everyone involved in the bidding process should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved.

“The plans for redevelopment work in Derby are really exciting, it’s a place with huge potential but also a place with a fascinating heritage.

“This decision emphasises this and further strengthens the city at a time of real change.

“Our campaign was a small part of bringing Great British Railways to Derby but we’re delighted to have been involved and look forward to reporting on the investment and jobs this move will bring to the area.”
