Senior editor leaves role after four months to join international title

Harry Rutter 2022A senior editorial figure is leaving a regional publisher after four months in his current role to join an international news title.

Harry Rutter has announced his departure from Archant to join the audience development team at the Daily Mail’s Mail Online operation, working on its output in both the UK and USA.

Harry has served as live news editor for Archant’s titles across Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, as well as two of the group’s Essex weeklies, since January this year.

He began his career in October 2017 as an apprentice journalist at the Cambs Times and subsequently worked as an audience development specialist for the publisher.

Harry, pictured, told HTFP: “I will always look back on my time in local newspapers with a massive smile on my face, it’s been an absolute blast and has taught me everything I know today and has shaped me into the journalist I am today.

“From covering stories about stunned shoppers finding potatoes as big as their heads to pulling an all-nighter covering the local elections in a freezing cold sports all, I’ve loved every minute, every story and every opportunity that’s come my way.

“I do want to shout-out John Elworthy who gave me my big break, seeing something in me in 2017 and offering me my apprenticeship at the Cambs Times newspaper.”

Harry also praised the “extremely talented” Mail Online team he will be joining.

He added: “I’m very excited to start, joining The Mail has always been an ambition of mine, I love everything they do with the Mail Online, from showbiz to video to their Snapchat output.

“I can’t wait to start.”
