Ex-apprentice returns to titles that launched his career

Harry RutterA  journalist who started out as an apprentice just over four years ago is to head up live news coverage at the titles where he began his career.

Harry Rutter has been appointed live news editor for Archant’s titles across Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, as well as two of its Essex weeklies.

Harry, pictured, will be responsible for breaking news, trending, viral and search engine optimisation content across 10 titles in total.

His appointment comes after similar restructures by Archant in Norfolk, Suffolk and London, where specialist ‘Live’ reporting teams have been created to cover breaking news.

Harry, who trained with PA in London, began his career as an apprentice journalist at three of the newspapers his new post covers – the Cambs Times, Wisbech Standard and Ely Standard – in October 2017.

He became a multimedia reporter at the weeklies in 2019, before moving to a new role with Archant as an audience development specialist in July last year.

The other titles Harry will work with in his new role are the Hunts Post, Royston Crow, The Comet, Herts Advertiser, Welwyn Hatfield Times, Saffron Walden Reporter and Dunmow Broadcast.

Speaking to HTFP, Harry said: “I really cannot wait to get started, leading a team as passionate about breaking news, Google Trends, SEO and what’s trending as much as me.

“I can’t thank my colleagues enough for their constant support in my career progression over the last four years.”

“I was a multimedia reporter at the Cambs Times, Wisbech Standard and Ely Standard for over three years at the start of my career so to be back editing the live news output really is a full circle dream.”
