Publisher launches digital expansion with creation of 22 new jobs

Steven ChisholmMore than 20 new jobs including senior editorial roles are being created in a regional publisher’s bid to expand its digital offering.

JPIMedia has unveiled four editor posts among 22 new jobs as it seeks to invest in areas including digital newsletters, search engine optimisation, trending news and football news.

Many of the roles are flexibly based, although some will be situated in Edinburgh, Leeds and Sheffield.

A newsletter editor, group SEO editor, football content editor and group live trending editor are among the roles being sought as part of the plan.

JPI group audience editor Steven Chisholm, pictured, told HTFP: “We’re investing in digital talent as we look to build on our audience growth, create the best content possible for our loyal audiences and develop the next phase of our digital strategy.

“There’s some terrific digital knowledge in our business already and with new senior leadership opportunities, as well as some great new content creation roles, this investment will strengthen our teams and expand our capabilities in key areas.

“This is an exciting time to join us.

“We launched the nationalworld.com site last year and it’s already the biggest site in our network in terms of audience, we’ve launched new websites in markets including London, Manchester and Bristol and we’ve been experimenting with new ways to add value in our reader revenue models with more premium content and added perks to subscription for our customers.”

The move comes after rival publisher Reach plc announced the launch of a regional ‘newsletters-first’ strategy in November.

At JPI, the newsletter editor will be responsible for overseeing the company’s strategy on this issue and will be supported by two newsletter journalists.

The football content editor will be supported by two football writers, while the group SEO editor will oversee the work of four SEO writers.

A new group live trending editor and senior live trending news writer are also being recruited, to be based in Edinburgh, Leeds or Sheffield.

Nine live trending news writers will also be recruited – three in each of those cities.
