An Oscar-winning Hollywood star has been among the celebrities to congratulate a regional title upon reaching its thousandth edition.
Dame Judi Dench has wished The Dalesman well after it achieved the milestone, with other celebrity endorsements coming from Alan Titchmarsh and Sir Michael Parkinson.
The magazine, now based in Skipton, was first published in April 1939.
The Dalesman ran a special edition marking the feat for its July issue, pictured below.
Dame Judi told the magazine: “Anyone who loves the Dales like I do, having been born and brought up in York, will know and love The Yorkshire Dalesman.
“It was always a special part of my childhood. How wonderful it is still going strong and may it go on for another 1,000.”
Other celebrty endorsements included those from Alan Titchmarsh, who described The Dalesman as “the heart, soul and spirit of the Dales”, while Sir Michael Parkinson said its staff “should be very proud that your fine magazine obviously creates a feeling of loyalty from its readers”.
Editor Mick Smith said: “It’s an honour to be a footnote in the annals of Dalesman history on such a proud occasion.
“Today’s modern Dalesman still abides by the principles of the founding editor ‘to serve the interests of this great community’ and by continuing to do so we have spun a golden thread which ties us to our incredible readers.”
