New book showcases retired photojournalist’s most amusing pictures

A retired regional press photographer has published a new book featuring some of his most amusing photographs.

Graham Gough has released ‘Have a Loff’, a collection of humorous photos of the Black Country taken over the course of his career with Wolverhampton daily the Express & Star.

Graham was chief photographer at the Express & Star until he took early retirement in 2001.

The book is his second, following on from previous collection ‘The Black Country Album: 50 Years of Events, People and Places’.

Have a Loff

It features a foreword by Paul Delmar, the retired head of the National Council for Training of Journalists press photography/ photojournalism course.

Among the photos featured is Graham’s Midlands News Picture of the Year Award-winning 1975 picture of a male stripper entertaining a hen night in Dudley.

Graham told HTFP: “This is a collection of some of my most amusing pictures spanning the past few decades. Styles may change but humour remains eternal.

“This book is a timely antidote to current tribulations as readers can escape into the past where wrestling vied with Kenny Ball and the Merry Widow at Dudley Hippodrome, seven bobbies on a bike promote the National Cycle Festival, royals get stuck in the mud and a cheeky hen night provides the inspiration for artist Beryl Cook.”
