Liz Truss ‘car crash’ journalist moves jobs after colleague’s death

John AcresA journalist who won recent acclaim for his “car crash” interview with former Prime Minister Liz Truss has taken a new job.

BBC Radio Stoke breakfast show presenter John Acres will move to host the same programme on BBC Radio Devon, it has been confirmed

John’s transfer follows the death of Radio Devon presenter Gordon Sparks, who died of cancer last month aged 61.

John, pictured, was among eight BBC journalists praised in September for their questioning of Ms Truss in a round of interviews she conducted across local radio stations.

Former BBC political correspondent Jon Sopel branded the then-Prime Minister’s responses “excruciating” while Guardian political sketchwriter John Crace described them as “a car crash.”

John Acres has worked for joined Radio Stoke for more than 10 years. He was initially a sports reporter and was known for commentating on Stoke City football matches.

John then became a roving news reporter and went on to present the breakfast show, only doing so from Thursday to Saturday since last year after returning to his native Devon.

Referring to John’s Radio Stoke departure, a BBC spokesman told Stoke-on-Trent daily the Sentinel: “John will be leaving the station and any schedule changes will be announced in due course.”
