Journalists work from pub as daily launches ‘pop-up newsroom’

A regional daily was produced from a pub after the newspaper launched a new ‘pop-up newsroom’ initiative.

Oldham Times staff decamped to the Fox and Pine pub on Thursday afternoon, with drinkers discussing stories they want to see in the paper with its journalists.

The Times is currently based at the home of its Newsquest sister daily the Bolton News, and it is hoping to host a pop-up newsroom in the Oldham area once a month.

Richard Duggan, Newsquest’s regional editor for Lancashire and Greater Manchester, was among the staff in attendance at the Fox and Pine.

He told HTFP: “Our pop-up newsroom has been a real success.

“We’ve had members of the public come to see us to raise concerns they have – including difficulties accessing medical treatment – and to thank us for our coverage, particular around Oldham Athletic.

“We’re planning to hold at least one pop-up a month at various establishments around the borough so I would urge members of the public who weren’t able to attend today’s pop-up to keep an eye out online or in print for notification about the next one.”
